5 Runway Trends That Will Dominate 2017
Take a cue from the runway, per example Isabel Marant and YSL, and clad your bod in high-shine metallics, 80's inspired silhouettes, super high hemlines and lots of glam. Shoulder-pads are back again, bringing their full boxy, oversized nature once more. Also oversized business jackets, MC Hammer style pants and clothes Pat Benatar would've used.
If you're sick of the Hadid stamp, I'm sorry to break it to you but the sporty trend is still going on strong. At Dior, fencing attire is made totally chic, while at Public School we saw metallics intertwined with soft athletic jersey, only to further strengthen the mega-trend. This time though, with a more sophisticated approach, less sweats and yoga pants and more creative use of fabrics, colors and layering. Get on it Hailey Baldwin!
All over the runways we saw designers mix and matching delicate with rough, coquette with rebellious, masculine with feminine, creating outfits almost resemblant of mixed media art. I particularly swooned over Coach 1941, where delicate dresses were paired with chunky studded flatform booties, playfully patched bags and rock & roll-ish keychains. (I'm personally obsessed with the T-Rex). Apparently the creative layering and unlikely garment + accessories pairing is not going anywhere, and I couldn't be happier.
The Reign of the Deconstructed Shirt
This trend has become a staple on most of our closets, and it's not going anywhere this upcoming season, so make sure to bust out those deconstructed button-downs and put them in heavy rotation once more. If you want an updated version of it though, take some tips from Alexander Wang where shirting was converted into crop tops and skirts and at Monse where sequins were added into the poplin mix.
One of my favorites of this list (especially everything from Sachin & Babi) and I'm happy to report that it will live yet another season. Diaphanous skirts, ethereal dresses and sheer layering are all over the runways for 2017. From the girly yet quirky frocks at Sachin & Babi, the amazing top layers of the origami masterpieces at Delpozo, to the sexy and glamorous layered dresses at Louis Vuitton. Show some skin through sheer organza, chiffon and crepe de chine, sensuous yet elegant.
